WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE BUYING YOUR PET

RESEARCHING BEFORE BUYING YOUR PET

Researching before buying a pet is important because it can help ensure that you are prepared to provide the necessary care and attention for your new pet. Different types of animals have different needs when it comes to food, exercise, and living conditions, and it's important to understand these requirements before bringing a new pet into your home.

Additionally, different breeds of animals may have different temperaments and personalities, and it's important to choose a pet that is a good match for your lifestyle and living situation. By doing your research before buying a pet, you can ensure that you are making an informed decision and that you are prepared to provide the best possible care for your new companion. This can help prevent situations where pets are neglected, abandoned, or surrendered to animal shelters or rescue organisations due to lack of preparation or understanding.

ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

Good animal husbandry is important because it promotes the health and welfare of animals and helps ensure that they are able to live happy, healthy lives. Proper animal husbandry involves providing animals with adequate food, water, shelter, and medical care, as well as ensuring that they are able to engage in natural behaviours and live in a clean and safe environment.

By practicing good animal husbandry, we can help prevent disease and injury, reduce stress and anxiety, and promote the overall well-being of animals. Additionally, good animal husbandry can help ensure that animals are able to produce high-quality products such as meat, milk, and eggs, which can be important for human consumption. By promoting good animal husbandry practices, we can help ensure that animals are treated with the respect and care they deserve and that they are able to live happy, healthy lives.

VETERINARY ATTENTION

Taking your pet to the vet is important because it allows for a professional evaluation of your pet's health and well-being. While online resources can be helpful for general information and advice, they cannot replace the expertise of a trained veterinarian who can provide personalised care and treatment. Vets have the knowledge and experience to properly diagnose and treat a wide range of medical conditions and can provide guidance on a variety of topics such as nutrition, behaviour, and preventative care.

Additionally, many medical conditions can be difficult to diagnose without proper training and equipment, and delaying treatment can result in unnecessary suffering or even death. By taking your pet to the vet, you can ensure that they receive the best possible care and that any medical issues are identified and treated in a timely manner.

Many animals require specialist, exotic veterinarians so this must also be considered. Different animals have different anatomy and physiology, so a specialist vet can provide more specific and effective treatment for their unique needs.

HOW TO SUPPORT THE PET TRADE

Support animal charities when possible, they are often overrun with animals needing homes.

There are not many reputable pet shops around who have high standards of animal care and welfare. You would be surprised at what goes on behind closed doors in these shops. At the moment, the only shop I support is Dragon’s Aquatics. Their animal care standards are out of this world and they will never sell you anything you don’t need or anything unsafe for your pet. They can be found at the link below-
